I Tell You

And I tell you, I prayed for beauty,
Yet not of the face and not of time,
But of the heart and of the spirit,
Not of the physical, but of the mind.

And I tell you, it was timeless,
You don’t wear lipstick on the soul.
A beauty like this is priceless,
Never can it ever be bought or sold.

Timeless truth
This brief, clearly worded offering conveys an ancient wisdom. True beauty is a thing of the spirit. As the poet tells us, it can't be bought or sold. Very nicely done.

compact meaning
You don't wear lipstick on the soul. That's a pearl worth keeping. Reminded me of the term' 'diamond in the rough'. Many of us, including yours truly, are caught off guard when we look in the mirror one day and suddenly realize we are old---er. Older. What have we got in the bank that doesn't get old, only better. Well done.

Yes Rachel
..Deep down in the soul there is that beauty that is beyond compare! We have only to search for it!

This immediately...
made me think of two things. My friend, Sam, and his idea of PPU. And my granddaughter, Lili. Sam coined the acronym PPU which stands for perfect, precious and unique. And Lili, well, I've told her, her parents, my wife and anyone else who will listen that she's beautiful and always will be. But more than outward beauty she has it inside too, joie de vivre just pours out of her. So I've also said she will keep her outward beauty but anyone that tampers with her inner beauty will deal with me, very harshly by the way. So this is a great poem regarding that type of beauty. Short but SL worthy!

Namaste,
Mike
