WRITERS BEWARE
WRITERS BEWARE

In the course of writing and informing you what to become aware of as a writer I can only do so from my own experience. What I really want to warn you about has to do with publishing. My first book was published overseas by a S.E. Asian publisher whom I will not mention. As with any book that is published there is a contract; however, if the contract is with a publisher overseas, then the resolution of a breach of contract would be adjudicated in a court from that country. If you would like to take them to court then you would have to hire an international lawyer who understands the treaties the United States has with that particular country and be willing to travel.
The second pitfall of publishing is in the POD business. POD stands for “publish on demand” and such a publisher neither promotes nor distributes your books, however, you do not have to pay to get your book published which is a step up from a “Vanity Press.” The third warning is for you budding poets who are looking to get published. Most publishers deal with agents and it is almost impossible to get published in the poetry genre since agents do not more than often represent poets.
The good news is that you can publish yourself on the web in E-book using a PDF format or go to Lulu.com and they will publish for you. If you charge a modest amount to read your book and you use pay pal, you could generate an income stream without going the perilous, nebulous route of waiting for minuscule royalties that may never come in. Furthermore, you can use the World Wide Web to promote your e-books via newsletter, press release, etc. Now, you are in control of your destiny.

Good luck!
