~~~If You Can, Hold On~~~
I ask simply,
What does it take one
To hold onto their integrity?
A show of hands please,
In this trodden city ?
You’ve got to,
Watch out from behind you,
But don’t get blind-sided now~
Even so with all of this,
It’s the on-comers that will
Get you anyhow!
It’s sink or swim on the freeway.
City driving is just as crazy~
And the roads to the country are
So far away, my memory of them
Is a bit vague and hazy.
So it seems~
It’s everywhere to be at once!
Yet nowhere to go to heal,
We’ll have all day to get there
And no time to make it real…
But as for myself,
I am reminded of
Who I am and want to be,
When on coast highway 101.
This is one place I can hold onto,
A bit of my integrity.
The California shoreline,
Should be the ninth
Wonder of the world!
I love to park anywhere
To sit and ponder there,
The state of my hair,
From the salt air
That has curled~
Yes, in losing my mind
I really do find,
How to be loving and kind
To me~
Therefore also to others
My sisters and brothers~
For in my life,
Honest goes hand in hand
With that love
Which together
Totals the sum of the key
Unlocking your heart
To the opportunity
To experience and show
Real integrity.
Because in this rat race
Called ‘humanity’
It’s easy to lose sight
Of one’s priorities.
Lost then may be your cause,
For it is found only,
In the truth with yourself~
About who you are
And want to be.
About what you’ve come for
And just how far
You will go
Just to know
The feeling of reaching
The goal.
Paying the toll~
Rocking to the roll,
Just to save your wretched soul!
And you just never know~
Who’s watching you today,
The things you do and say?
Your integrity,
Or lack therof~
Will show them the way.
