I feel light headed, weak at the knees
Need to consume some calories
I feel as though I’m going to swoon
I’m going to collapse if I don’t eat soon

Ray stops at the waters edge
With his hand he starts to dredge
Then moves his hand, pulls something to the top
A handful of slimy florescent green slop
“This I believe is Spirulina
As you can’t find anything greener
spirulina is a form of algae
You’ll eat it if your THAT hungry
You know this green, sloppy goo?
The Aztecs would also eat it too
It doesn’t make a very great feed
But it contains everything you need
Iron, vitamins, acids and zink
We could eat it, what do you think?
In fact you don’t have to question why
It’s a case of do or die
There’s no need for me to dictate
We have to eat it in its raw state “

I sigh and hang my head low
Okay I suppose I could give it a go
I pull it apart with my hands
Try to separate a few stringy strands
I throw my head back, open my mouth wide
Chuck a handful of Spirulina inside
It’s disgusting in taste and it’s coarse
But I’m so hungry I could eat a scabby horse
Shit this stuff tastes so rank
Reminds me of the contents in a fish tank
Oh how I wish I was tucking into a roast dinner
But it’ll keep me alive so I’m onto a winner

Delightful piece, kashaw. We have to be careful, I think, in copying or extolling what the ancients did. In the case of the Aztecs, for instance, spirulina, shmeerulina...look what happened to them. And as an aside, I love your "motto" on your profile page. Couldn't agree more. And reading this, I didn't once think of "Soylent Green".

Very interesting and well-written. It reminds me of the Charlton Heston movie "Soylent Green." in which soylent green also contained all the nutrients needed to live. I won't say where it came from because you or some readers of this may not have seen the film and would like to. But it ain't seaweed.

Does it taste like roast pork?

Had to Google this because I'd never heard of spirulina.
Intriguing that it's widely described as the most nutrient dense food on the planet.
Will be checking it out at the drugstore though as I'm not as brave as you.
I've always hated anything slimy in my mouth but pills I can handle.
Thanks for the read.
Best ~ Abra
