THIS OLD HOSS
THIS OLD HOSS
Been a riding this old ‘hoss’ all day long
Bothered by the mid day sun.
A thirsty holster keeps this gun.
I am afraid of none!
With night a drawing near
Of them there coyotes, I have no fear.
Brandy in my pocket, comfort as I lie back
Count the stars on darkest night, lying on my pack.
I reminisce and think of my dear love
Who sadly left and went above.
Now there’s just this old ‘hoss’ and me
Perfect pair as you can see.
Won him in a poker game
Grandad taught me how to play the game.
This old ‘Hoss’ looks out for me
Pricked up ears, my keenest company.
Still these sounds of night embrace my heart
As I fondly think of my sweetheart.
Must now hit the old ‘El Passo’ trail
Find new life next to the rail.
Cabin on that old dirt track
Home where I can safely hang my hat!
