The Finalists:

damndogs
The middle of summer, the heat beating down
In the distance, the scorching, distorting the ground
Nothing is moving, all life's gone, all noise
All taking cover, all waiting, all poised

They wait and they wait for the end of day breeze
Its soft, soothing fingers that caress first, then tease
The movement of air 'gainst the stillness of heat
Pushing harsh warmth, 'til the warmth tastes defeat

Then slowly at first, life springs forth once more
Dancing with delight as shadows creep 'cross the floor
No scurrying and hurrying across hot earth and sand
For the breeze has got summer caught tight in her hand.

ThePriestess
The MidSummer Sabbat,
in the light of the year,
is ruled by the Goddess,
with nothing to fear.

The days are the longest,
as the scorching Sun pounds,
delight for the children,
who run all around.

A cool breeze approaches,
the Sun will set soon,
giving way to the dancing,
of our brilliant Moon.

jeanthomas
I stole this summer in a dancing store
Foxtrot, swing and tango, what a galore!
Hooray! hooray! the dancers say
They want to learn this new summer sway.

We gently fly to feel the breeze
Scorching flowers and burning trees
We danced all day and would dance all night
This new summer sway is such a delight!

Dance with me, my friend, dance with me
Open your eyes and your heart to see
This new summer sway will not be over
Let's dance this freedom, let's dance forever.

poetrymaz
Now this is a poem that I can't write with ease
I can do a little dancing, that parts a breeze

But I'm Scottish you see, so there's no scorching here
It's pisses it down with rain for most of the year

So while you have summers filled with delight
I'm trying to stop the paddling pool taking flight

There's no swimming in the sea and feeling the breeze
We invented Scottish dancing, just so we didn't freeze

Four seasons in a day is just about the norm
If you say the word barbecue there's usually a storm

So please forgive me if this poem has took away your sun
If it's any consolation............ I've got a frozen bum!

jc09
A gentle breeze flows through her hair
While on the pier we saunter
The moon it casts fluorescent beam
Dancing on the water

The poems we wrote on the beach
The tide has washed away
The scorching heat of fervent sand
Relieved by ocean spray

I take my darling by the hand
And much to my delight
She whispers softly in my ear
This is the perfect night

I honestly couldn't decide between them , so I picked "randomly" from my favorites. Everyone of these deserves to win, and I'm honored to have an "honorable mention". Thanks for that judges

Well each poet certainly dances eloquently across the keyboard with beautiful sound and rhythm! It is difficult to choose - however, poetrymaz is the winner for me, the poem is witty and genius!

All of the poems were wonderful BUT poetrymaz stole the show!   The poem wasn't like the others and of course that made it stand out!  Original, unique, and funny!

The last day of school was a breeze,
For I knew in only hours I'd be running,
    and swinging from trees,
Taking dips in the pond to escape the
   scorching heat,
Dancing in the moonlight as I looked
  up at the stars,
Consumed with delight watching the girls
round town I secretly liked.

Oh, so that's why nothing else has been done with the other challenges. I thought they just couldn't decide on the semi-finalists for those Challenges. I agree we should just choose a winner and get it over wih.

"Death is the Life's greatest invention." -Jobs

Congradulations!! I haven't done a writing contest in a while.. Hm...
Logged

Death... We all know of it, yet we all fear its aura.  It leaves behind a lingering odor and commotion of emotions we wish not to organize. Some wish to shy away, yet we all end up meeting it someday.  Some open their arms gratefully when that day comes... I wish to be one of those people.
