You can earn points for free by reviewing poems and stories on the site. Not only are you providing the author with feedback on their writing, but you are also earning points from Writers-Network which will in turn allow you to submit more of your own writing. It's a win-win!

For your comments, you will earn:

1 point for comments that are 50 to 199 characters
2 points for comments that are 200 to 299 characters
3 points for comments that are 300+ characters

NOTE: Your verdict text does not count toward the character requirement. To earn your point, your actual comment text must be at least 50 characters long.

The Helpful Vote:
You also can earn an additional point if a member thinks your review was helpful and gives you a "thumbs up" vote.
Please be sure to always review your reviewer (using the thumb up/thumb down vote). This allows us to keep track of the quality of reviews being given on the site and also provides feedback to the reviewer in regards to the helpfulness of their review.

Encourage The Author:
This section allows you to provide the author with additional encouragement. You can applaud their writing, send them points and nominate their writing entry for our spotlight page. All of which are wonderful forms of encouragement.

NOTE: When applauding a piece of writing, you will be charged 1 point for each applaud you send. If you send the author 3 applauds, it will cost you 3 points.

Please be sure to always provide quality, helpful feedback. If you have a negative view of a particular writing piece, you must provide your critique in a constructive, polite manner. Keep your reviews in perspective; personally attacking an author will not be tolerated.

Also if i may add in a side note, 1 star does not mean #1. I've had a few well meaning people give me one stars thinking that was the best, 5 is the best. I only mention it so no one accidentally offends another writer with the star rating.

Yes, that is correct. For those that have a hard time remembering, please refer to the little graphic chart above the star ratings (in the review box) as it shows you that the ratings are from 1.0 (needs work) to 5.0 (perfect). See the example below:
