I'm curious about how many people have self-published their own book. How has your experience? What self-publishing company did you use? Have you been able to get your book stocked in book stores?

My friend self-published his book last year and never had any problem at all. The whole production process took about 3-4 months.

Why do we have hearts when they break so easily?

id like to... but i live in a part of the world where publishing something is nearly impossible

Death... We all know of it, yet we all fear its aura.  It leaves behind a lingering odor and commotion of emotions we wish not to organize. Some wish to shy away, yet we all end up meeting it someday.  Some open their arms gratefully when that day comes... I wish to be one of those people.

I know a couple of people who used Authorhouse, Lulu and Publish America.

It's not impossible to publish a book.  You just google book publishers and you'll get a host of self-publishing companies and traditional publishers from all over the United States.

The good thing about self publishing is that you happen to have full control of your book's publishing.

I recently heard a few professionals in the industry call self-publishing "career suicide".
Doesn't the fact that you self-published your book kind of tell people "my book wasn't good enough to hold the attention of a publishing company, so I published it myself"?? Not that I necessarily agree with that but I would think some readers (or potential agents/editors) might see it that way.

I dunno... I guess it's a good last resort AND its probably a great option for those who refuse to change anything about their writing. They would have all the freedom in the world.  big grin
