I recently heard a few professionals in the industry call self-publishing "career suicide".
Doesn't the fact that you self-published your book kind of tell people "my book wasn't good enough to hold the attention of a publishing company, so I published it myself"?? Not that I necessarily agree with that but I would think some readers (or potential agents/editors) might see it that way.
I dunno... I guess it's a good last resort AND its probably a great option for those who refuse to change anything about their writing. They would have all the freedom in the world.
